2021 SHANHAIGUAN GREAT WALL TRAIL RACE POSTPONED TO 2022

After the challenging year and a half, coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the race team was very excited to be working to bring runners a dream great wall race in 2021. However, the team regrets to announce that the race organization has received word from China officials that due to the tragic ultramarathon incident in May that they are forced to cancel the 2021 Shanhaiguan Great Wall Trail Race and postpone until October 14-16, 2022.  This was a devastating blow to the ultra industry and running community, our hearts and prayers go out to all the families impacted.

The Shanhaiguan team has always taken great pride to enforce strict safety requirements and rules to ensure each event is held safely, however, it is important to step back to review and improve race safety requirements and guidelines going forward.

In addition to internal safety improvements, the China government is developing safety guidelines and requirements for all extreme endurance races to be implemented for all race organizations going forward.  The team anticipates these new requirements to begin rolling out by year's end as races prepare for 2022.

In the meantime, our sister race at Wuyi Trail Race has been confirmed for 2021. A highly recommend race to experience their ultramarathon on the beautiful Wuyi mountains.

The team has a passion for creating the best ultra and trail race experiences that are paralleled by hosting a safe event for everyone and compiling with China's government rules and requirements.  Yes, these races are difficult, they push you out of your comfort zone, but they are always safe for everyone. The team promises you when it’s safe that they will come back better than ever to bring you their best mountain race yet.

Thank you for your understanding and support through these challenging times. Be safe, be strong, we look forward to seeing everyone in 2022!

Sincerely,

Shanhaiguan Great Wall Trail Race Team

2021 Jinshanling Great Wall Marathon Canceled

Hello Great Wall Runners, and Friends,

We have received official confirmation from the Jinshanling Great Wall Marathon organizers that they have canceled the 2021 race due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 race date is expected to be announced as we get closer to 2022.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. However, the good news is there is light at the end of this tunnel as pandemic numbers are dropping and vaccines are beginning to roll out around the world. Circumstances should be much better in the coming months and it will be safe to host endurance races again!

We are also excited to reveal a different Great Wall marathon and ultramarathon race coming later this year. Details coming soon, check back to our website for updates.

Thank you for your understanding in this challenging time.

2020 JINSHANLING GREAT WALL MARATHON CANCELED

Hello Participants, Volunteers, Sponsors, and Friends,

This is the announcement we were hoping that would never have to publish. Yet here we are going through a global COVID-19 pandemic together, like a bad dream that you cannot wake up from. This is unknown territory that is playing with our health and the health of our loved ones. We are all in this global pandemic together.

We never want to cancel any event, however, there is always a possibility of a race being affected by circumstances out of our control. This would include things such as earthquakes, fires, floods, extreme weather, civil unrest, government orders, pandemics, unsafe air quality, and other “Acts of God”.

This was not an easy decision to make, but the 2020 Jinshanling Great Wall Marathon event that was scheduled for April 12, 2020, has been canceled. We cannot be foolish or stubborn when it comes to people's lives, with hundreds to thousands of people that are a part of this event, the welfare of participants, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, family, crew, and park officials is always a priority.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

This is incredibly challenging for all of us as this impacts the livelihood of many people who work tirelessly for months to prepare this event. We need everyone to be smart in this global health crisis, stay home, self isolate, and let's do our part to stop this virus for good. Then we can all get back together and enjoy awesome adventure running experiences.

For participant questions please contact us or email run@rungreatwall.com.

Thank you for your understanding in this challenging time.

Sincerely,
